Oxfordfirst - IELTS
There are many different tests of English language skill but none has the reputation of IELTS which is the world’s most reputable and proven English test with over 1.4 million candidates taking the test each year. It is administered by the British Council, the University of Cambridge and IDP: IELTS Australia and is recognised by more than 6000 institutions across 120 countries.
There are two types of IELTS test, Academic and General Training; for study, of course, the first one is appropriate. The exam has four parts: Listening 30 minutes Reading 60 minutes Writing 60 minutes Speaking 11-14 minutes
IELTS results are graded on the 9-point scale each level corresponding to a different level of English competence..
Most Universities look for somewhere between 6 and 7 to satisfy their English language requirement where these two bands have the following meanings.
Band 6: Competent user: has generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.
Band 7: Good user: has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning.
